Defending
On this years game, defending has become a skill, no simply just holding down RT and A (R2 and X)! The jockey feature has been improved greatly and the tackling animations look much more realistic. Personally, I think the best way to defend effectively is to jockey the players (LT/L2) as they come towards you, and then press B (Circle) as the player is near enough. Slide tackles are not advisable, unless the player has just passed you and would be through on goal!
Attacking
Through balls are definitely the way forward (literally!) on FIFA 12. If you have fast wingers and strikers, then a quick press of LB/L1 and a carefully timed through ball (Y/Triangle), will easily set you up for a simple goal. When it comes to shooting, a curling finesse shot (RB/R1 and B/Circle) will find the net pretty often! If you're quite far out, holding the shoot button about 3/4 power will end in a perfectly powered shot, hopefully flying past the keeper!
